The JG Instructor is responsible for all Junior Lifeguards and will enforce all program policies. The goal of discipline is to maintain order and safety so that each participant has an equal opportunity to learn and enjoy themselves throughout the length of the program. Junior lifeguards who do not follow the rules will be disciplined fairly and consistently. Conversely, good behavior and performance will be justly rewarded and positively reinforced.
The Junior Guard Instructor will not tolerate:
Abusive, obscene, racist, or sexist language, Disrespect for others and/or their personal belongings, Misuse of equipment, Inability to follow beach and swim area regulations, Use or possession of drugs, alcohol, or weapons, Stealing, Poor sportsmanship or Lack of participation, and Any unsafe activity or behavior.
Disciplinary options include:
•Verbal warning that clearly states the behavioral expectations and consequences of misbehaving. Three warnings before enforcing a “time-out”.
•“Time-out” period in which the participant sits isolated from group, but within the JG area and still under instructor’s watch. Time-outs can range from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. No more than two time-outs will be issued before escalating to a phone conference with parents/guardians.
•Phone conference with parent/guardians
•On-site conference with the parent/guardians. (Aquatic Supervisor must be notified).
•Expulsion from program (requires Aquatic Supervisor’s approval).
